As we approach the summer break we have an opportunity to celebrate a successful year for the pupils at St Bartholomew’s CE (VC) Primary. Our children all did exceptionally well in their end of year assessments and we hope they will enjoy a well-earned rest in the summer holidays.

We all had a wonderful day when 38 of us headed to Chester Zoo as a culmination to our project on Animals. It was beautiful weather and almost too hot! We saw many fascinating animals including the new baby Black Rhino.

We were very fortunate with the weather for Sports Day although at one point we thought we might have to postpone it as it was so hot! I think this must be a first in Longnor. The children had a great time. It was particularly pleasing to hear so many people comment about the kindness of our children towards each other. We are delighted by their supportive attitudes.

Transition Week always brings some sadness as the leavers prepare for their new schools. Working in partnership with the Leek schools so closely ensures that the transition process for our children is very smooth. We have been working much more closely to ensure continuity in our children’s education with the Leek Education Partnership and this year we took part in the LEP Arts Festival. We were part of two hundred children singing and dancing together to an audience of six hundred parents. We displayed clay heads with a sound scape about the history of Longnor at the Art Gallery. Working together with the Leek schools in such an integrated manner allows us to be confident in the continuity of education.

Welcoming new children to reception and nursery is always exciting and transition week gave us the opportunity to meet new faces that will be starting in September.

We had an international sculptor, Lorna Green in school to work with the children on a Longnor Head project. The children had a super time learning about different techniques. The results were outstanding!

The children have been busy preparing for the Flower Festival in Church. Please have a look at our display.

We are looking forward to a Lord’s Prayer Day with Manifold Academy before the end of term.

We held our annual school fair on Saturday 8th July. Once again it was very successful and we would like to thank all those who supported it.

Newletters normally come out weekly and are sent home with children.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the Office.
